The success or failure of any video production is highly dependant on the answers given to two important questions. Who is your audience and what is the intended use for the project? The questionnaire prompts a client to think about these questions as well as other specific issues regarding pre and post-production. Many decisions need to be made regarding field production and distribution as well. This information is extremely valuable to us because it establishes the degree of preparation and the objectives for the project. Below are the links to these resources:
The production planner primarily serves as an educational tool for individuals or organizations that are in the initial planning stages of a project. The various aspects addressed are important components in virtually every project. Each category listed is discussed in general terms but will need thoughtful consideration before production begins.
Designed during pre-production, a storyboard is a series of images combined with descriptive notes that are used to depict the composition of a video project. Much as a construction project requires a blueprint, the storyboard becomes the guide for everyone involved with the production. Creating a storyboard also allows the production team to experiment with different ideas before taping any segments. Once a concept is agreed upon, unnecessary shooting and editing are avoided. Ultimately this will save valuable production and post-production time and ensure that the project remains within budget. When the director, camera operator, talent, and editing team all understand the goals of the video a quality production can become a reality. Ravs Creations can also provide complete script writing and storyboarding services.
An Edit Decision List is a form that allows you to perform offline editing. Writing down time code of desired scenes on the EDL prior to the edit session saves substantial time and money. Time codes assist the editor with locating scenes on raw footage and assembling those scenes in the desired order. Imprinted during recording on digital formats, time codes show hours, minutes, seconds and frames (00:00:00.00). Good communication between you and the editor is essential.
